A Gantt chart is a bar chart that was developed by Henry Gant in 1910. This bar chart illustrates the schedule of a project. Every activity to be done is illustrated on a Gantt chart . The start and finish dates of the terminal elements and summary elements are recorded on the Gantt chart. Gantt chart is used in project management. This ensures that all activities are scheduled and will complete within a given time. This ensures efficiency and the project will meet its intended goals. When all the activities are outlined and budgeted for, it will be difficult to leave out important details of the project. With a Gantt chart, the project manager will be able to track the project schedules.

Analysis can be done by used of a Gantt chart. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is mostly used in engineering. It is a computational tool used for performing engineering analysis. The techniques that are used in this analysis method are mesh generation and software program that is coded with FEM algorithm. Mesh generation involves dividing a complex problem into small elements. This will help in analyzing a project and ensure that all the schedules are followed closely. This will help ensure that the project is complete on time. It will also help find the shortcoming of the project and find solutions.

Partial Design Report (PDR) is an essential activity used in project management. This is whereby the project manager or an Engineer comes up with a report on activities that are needed to be done in order to complete a particular project. This report acts as a guide in designing the schedule of activities. This will help determine the activity that will take place first and one that will end the project. The partial design report will help list the activities, the activity number, duration it will take, and expected date of starting the activities. This report can include partial activities or activities which will be done up to a particular time. This will help communicate on the project deliverables and their interactions. Each person is informed of the specific activities to focus on. In this report, the project goals are stipulated. The concept design, model design, and engineering activities may be reported. In another instance, a complete design report should be prepared by the project managers.

In the scheduling of activities, there is need to ensure that a final report will be prepared. This is whereby activities of project assessment and evaluation are done. The project manager assesses each activity that was schedule. The aim is to check if the activities are complete. This is whereby control activities are also carried out. Controlling help check the errors that has occurred in the project. Once the errors are identified, the project manager will give a report accounting every detail of the project. This will help the team come up with possible solutions to these errors. The project manager will also evaluate if the project met its intended goals. If it did, then the project is complete and successful. If the goals were not met, adjustments can be done.

In conclusion, a Gantt chart is a tool used in project management that guides the team in completing the project. The projects activities are determined and a schedule developed. The time and date of starting the project is identified as well as the expected date of completion. The project is analyzed and reports prepared in order to know its progress.

  1. This is a great move. A Gantt Chart becomes a relaly useful project management tool if it can track resourcing (otherwise it is simply a chronological chart which has to be used with other tools and that becomes cumbersome).However, what I would relaly like to see is the ability to assign a percentage of a resource to a task. What will follow is plot of resource against time from which can be seen relaly useful things such as; John is relaly overloaded here that’s never going to work ; Engineering effort starts winding down to one person in Q2 next year ; We will obviously need another programmer starting in January etc. etc.
